ISBN and Magic Links[edit | edit source]

ISBN (and PubMed PMID and IEEE RFC) links used to be automatically linked by MediaWiki software, but now you have to explicitly enable them as magic links [1] and also setup a Project namespace page like wp:Book sources [2]

The 'process'[3] to remove the feature was controversial, but pushed through anyway.

To create a nice book link on this wiki, use the ISBN as a parameter (path argument) to Special:BookSources

We do not have or use a special template, so just make your own link like [[Special:BookSources/978-1-25763801-7|''The Architecture of Open Source Applications'']] which results in a link like this: The Architecture of Open Source Applications

International Standard Book Number = 10-digit or 13-digit codes used by the publishing industry to uniquely identify individual book titles and editions. Some 10-digit ISBNs may end with an "X" instead of a digit.
